Why one plan

A district cannot be built project by project

Before this plan, help came in pieces. One group dug a well, another gave seedlings, and nobody wrote down what happened next. The Dhinowda Development Plan puts everything in one document so the district, the government and partners all read the same page.

The plan is written by DDA with the villages, and it is reviewed every year in an open meeting.

Three stages

How the plan is staged

Stage 1 . Hold the line

Protect what is left

Fence the dune fronts closest to homes, the main road and the wells. Clear buried wells. Nothing else can work until the sand slows down.

Stage 2 . Grow it back

Water and trees

Nurseries in every village, a green belt on the windward side, and enough water storage to keep the young trees alive through the dry months.

Stage 3 . Stand on our own

A living from land and sea

Cold storage, market links, small business groups and trained care teams, so the district keeps the work going without outside help.

DDA wrote it with village committees. Elders, women's groups, fishermen and youth all gave input before it was signed off.

Because sand undoes everything else. A new well fills with sand. A young tree gets buried. Slowing the dunes is what makes the rest possible.

Stage 1 is measured in seasons, stage 2 in years, stage 3 longer. Trees need two dry seasons before we call them safe.

Every gift is recorded with what it was used for. Reports are read out at the yearly district meeting and put on this website.
